7 Jagjit Singh Ghazals That Will Make You Fall In Love With Him

Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya Bekhudi Kya Cheez Hai which means An aware mind will never know what losing yourself means.

Didn't it take you back to the time when you songs and Ghazals had a meaning and life lessons with it and not just music and the beats? This line is one of the many lines that made Jagjit Singh the King Of Ghazal, he was, he still is and will always be the man you associate the word " Ghazal " with, the man that saw and went through fame, money, love, tragedy and many more emotions in his lifetime. One can't help but think that this rollercoaster of emotions that he went through in his life is what reflects in his work and helps us connect with it on a different level altogether.

In the era of Hip-Hop and EDMs, Jagjit Singh's voice still lends you peace. so here are 7 Ghazals sung by the man himself which will make you his admirer forever.

1) Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya

This one is my favorite of all time, the mere simplicity of this Ghazal is enough to make you fall in love with it. Jagjit Sahab in this one perfectly explains to a person who is about to or has started falling in love with what love means and how does it feel being in love, he also lets you in, in the mind of a person, who is been there done that, which is him, himself.

Fact - This is from the movie Sarfarosh and Naseeruddin Shah sings this as he plays the role of a Ghazal singer in the movie.

2) Chulle Aag Na

This is a Punjabi one, it is light-hearted and hilarious take on the life of bachelors, it humourous explains the hardships a guy go through when he is single and ready to mingle and all you pray for is " Rabba Sanu nu dilade koi rani " but from outside are sakht loundas this one is dedicated to you guys.

Fact - when Jagjit Singh Sahab sang this ghazal he starts with with a small poem by Ghulam Farid named " Gori kali" which is a masterpiece in itself.

3) Punjabi Tappe

For all you married couples, this is for you. This one of the finest duet I have ever heard and absolutely love it, Jagjit Sahab and Chitraji killed it with this one, the Ghazal/song is how a guy is trying to make amends with his angry wife and how the wife puts the guy in his place for each one of his attempts.

Fact- Jagjit Singh and Chitra were married till death did them apart.

4) Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho

All of us have done it at some point in life when we are sad and we are holding it in and trying not to cry when someone asks you " how are you "  and you say All good, Fine etc but you are not. This Ghazal is about that, that way people hide their feelings and they to mask it with their smile.

5) Chithi Na Koi Sandesh

Even if you haven't heard any of Jagjit Sahab's Ghazals you must have heard this one, it a train to an emotional journey, a journey in which you will remember people who were once a part of your life and now are nowhere to be found, a journey which will bring back memories and events, which are buried deep down in your heart and a journey which will be a reunion with all those people who you once thought you couldn't live without.

Fact -  The song Chithi Na Koi Sandesh is considered to be dedicated to his son who died in a car accident, after which her wife Chitra stopped singing.

6)  Koi Fariyaad

We can't always speak our mind because different people have different opinions but sometimes you just don't express or speak your mind out because you don't have the courage to say it or you just can't say it, this Ghazal is all about the last part. Jagjit Sahab in this Ghazal has beautifully captured the fear and the hesitation of a person who for whichever reason can't speak their mind.

Fact - This is from the movie " Tum Bin " and was also recreated for the sequel of the movie " Tum Bin 2"

7) Aap ko dekh kar dekhta

There is always a person in your life who you just wanna keep looking at and all you can think about is them and all you want is to spend time with them. This Ghazal can be considered as an appreciation for them and you can dedicate this to them with a promise from my side that they will love it. I just can't imagine me listening to this Ghazal in a voice other than that of Jagjit Sahab.

With this, we come to the end of this article and am sure you have enjoyed all Ghazals, I have sparked your interest in Ghazals and turned you into a Jagjit Singh fan.
