7 Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Qawwalis That Will Intoxicate You

"Nasha Sheeshe Mein Angrai Laine Laga" which means "Intoxication in the bottle budged"

The lines are a small excerpt from the Qawaali " Mere Rashke Qamar " sang by the king of Qawwali, the man who has his admirers across borders, the man whose work is a holy grail of music and still being redone by many of the budding and  established artists, and a voice that intoxicates you to another level " Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan."

The man is well known for the intensity of his voice and his lyrics, which has aged like a fine wine. His Qawwalis have been recreated and are still being recreated by many mainstream musicians from Bollywood movies as songs, many of these musicians have also cited him as their favorite Qawwal of all time. So I have compiled a list of 7 Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that will tingle your soul and intoxicate you a world of his own-

1) MERE RASHKE QAMAR

This is my Favorite Qawwali of all time, it's a very famous one too, and has also been recreated more than a dozen of time by musicians all around. Rashke means Jealous and Qamar means Moon, Here Nusrat Sahab addresses someone so beautiful that even the moon is envious of her.

A cover version called Mere Rashke Qamar was recorded by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for the 2017 Bollywood film Badshaho, which was a huge hit like the original one.

2) Tere Bin Nahin Lagda

This is another classic by the maestro himself, this song captures the feeling, the restlessness when you are away from your loved one and how even a second without them comes to bite you. like most of his Qawwalis, this has been recreated plenty of times too such as Bally Sagoo released a remix of Tere Bin Nahin Lagda, which was later featured in the 2002 British film Bend It Like Beckham. A cover version called Tere Bin was recorded by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with Asees Kaur for the 2018 Bollywood film Simmba.

3)Tum Ek Goorakh Dhanda Ho

This Qawwali is based on Nusrat Sahab's Journey on finding god, Gorakh Dhanda ho here means a tricky business, by which he in this Qawwali means finding God is a tricky business. The Qawwali explains why so and where exactly can you find god. Fun Fact about this one is in the live performance of this Qawwali you can see Amitabh Bacchan and the current Prime Minister of Pakistan sharing a table.

4) Mast Nazroon Se Allah Bacchae

How often do you find yourself in a situation where you see a beautiful face and you just can't stop looking at it? Nusrat Sahab in this Qawwali is faced by the same Dilemma. This one can also be taken into other contexts like how it's so hard to resist the wrong when looks so promising and true. (It's just me or even you think it's profound?).

5) Sanu Ik Pal Chain Na Aavey

This Qawwali Deals with the emotions that you feel and go through when your loved one is away from you and you are missing them. It beautifully captures the mood of a person who is longing for their loved one and makes for a perfect waiting song. (LDR victims this one is for you).

A cover version called Sanu Ik Pal was recorded by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for the 2018 Bollywood film The Raid.

6) Sochta Hoon

This one is a rather sad one, this Qawwali deal with the emotion of a person who is sad and a bit angry about the changed behavior of his loved one. The hook " Sochta Hoon ki Woh Kitne Masoom The Kya Se Kya Ho Gaye Dekhte Dekhte " is enough to make you understand the gist of the whole Qawwali.

A cover version called Dekhte Dekhte was recorded by Atif Aslam for the 2018 Bollywood film Batti Gul Meter Chalu.

7) Tumhe Dillagi

Make way for the song that everyone should listen to, in this era of the internet and the so-called Fast life, it's easy to infatuated about someone and consider it to be loved and this Qawwali deal and expresses the same. This Qawwali in all its glory defines what love is and how one should not confuse between infatuation and true love.

A cover version with the same name Tumhe Dillagi was recorded by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in 2016.

I know for a fact that all of you must have fallen in love with Nusrat Sahab if you made it to the end of the list so congratulations on becoming a Nfakian.
